چکیده

The preservation and definition of the correct retrofitting interventions historic masonry buildings represents a relevant topic nowadays, especially in country characterized by high seismicity zones. Considering Italian Cultural Heritage, most these are constructed ancient unreinforced (URM) showed level vulnerability during recent 2009 (L’Aquila), 2012 (Emilia Romagna) 2016 (Centro Italia) earthquakes. In this paper, seismic assessment an building damaged Centro Italia event is presented considering different types interventions. Starting from results obtained post-earthquake survey, finite element models have been implemented to perform linear non-linear analyses useful understand behaviour define appropriate particular, reinforced plaster layer cement-based grout injections applied each wall order improve their horizontal load-bearing capacity, additional made with Poroton blocks M10 cement mortar has built adjacent central stairwell. addition, view need replace roof seriously event, cross-laminated solution thickness equal 14 cm (composed seven layers, 2 thick) proposed. show that proposed led significant improvement building.

Seismic retrofitting of non-engineered masonry in rural Nepal

One of the greatest causes of casualties in major earthquakes around the world is the collapse of non-engineered masonry buildings (those built without engineering input). Yet by definition non-engineered structures remain largely outside of the scope of modern engineering research, meaning that the majority of those at risk often remain so. A further barrier to realising research in this field...

Seismic Mitigation of a Historic Masonry Building

This work presents an analysis of different proposals of rehabilitation of a masonry building, built around the beginning of the XX century for public schools, in the highest seismic risk zone of Argentine; and which was closed down after Mendoza`s Earthquake in 1985. The building has masonry walls of artisanal ceramic bricks and wood-framed roof but it does not have lateral ties. Currently, it...

Multi-Directional Seismic Assessment of Historical Masonry Buildings by Means of Macro-Element Modelling: Application to a Building Damaged during the L’Aquila Earthquake (Italy)

The experience of the recent earthquakes in Italy caused a shocking impact in terms of loss of human life and damage in buildings. In particular, when it comes to ancient constructions, their cultural and historical value overlaps with the economic and social one. Among the historical structures, churches have been the object of several studies which identified the main characteristics of the s...

Seismic and Restoration Assessment of Monumental Masonry Structures

Masonry structures are complex systems that require detailed knowledge and information regarding their response under seismic excitations. Appropriate modelling of a masonry structure is a prerequisite for a reliable earthquake-resistant design and/or assessment. However, modelling a real structure with a robust quantitative (mathematical) representation is a very difficult, complex and computa...
